Match Summary by Ananth Reddy
The NCCA bowlers, after being asked to take the field, bowled a very tight
initial spell, starting off with 6 consecutive maidens by Najam Naqvi and
Jamshed Syed. Runs started to flow slowly after and skipper Veman Reddy
playing a determined innings kept the score ticking. With the arrival of Clive
Samuels and John Zinto to the crease, the scoreboard went beserk, with the ball
disappearing into the vineyards frequently. Tony Newman and Dan Sahadeo kept
their cool amidst the onslaught and were rewarded with good analyses. Dhruv
Khanna was very tidy behind the stumps and kept the extras to a minimum. SCCA
ended with 193 for 6 in the allotted 40 overs.
NCCA is reply started off well, with Prem Suri and Jim Pitman putting on 98 for
the first wicket in rapid fashion, and Prem in particular being very severe on
the loose stuff, ending on a quickfire 60. NCCA weren't too far from finishing
the game by the 20-over drinks break, but for some tight bowling by Manthani
Reddy (on loan to SCCA), Clive Samuels and Veman Reddy. Hardat Prashad and
Amish Patel put on an unbeaten 6th wicket partnership of 60 runs to finish the
game in style. NCCA finished with 194 for 4 in 32 overs, and claimed the
crystal Raisinland Masters Trophy for the first time.
