About Ed Ahmad New York Caribbean Cup
The Ed Ahmad New York Caribbean Cricket competition will begin this Saturday, May 28 with eight teams competing for the prize money and other awards. The teams are Guyana, Jamaica, Barbados, Windward Islands, Leeward Islands, Trinidad & Tobago, Pakistan and New York Youths. Team India, who played last year, will not compete this year and a New York Combined Under 19 and Under 25 team has replaced them.
The 50 overs competition, played in colored clothes and white balls has produced a very high level of cricket and is open to cricketers from outside of New York. Any player in the USA who would like to improve their skills should contact their respective team representatives. Awards include a first prize of $5,000, second prize, $2,500 and other awards for good performances.
Defending champions, Guyana will be pulling out all the stops to regain the trophy. The team will include Steve Massiah, Zamin Amin, Lennox Cush, Andrew Gonsalves, Kevin Darlington, Hemant Ponoo and the Nagamotoo brothers.
Jamaica will be led by USA captain, Richard Staple and will have Rohan Alexander, Steve Pitter, Patrick Atkinson, Orlando Baker, Barrington Bartley, George Adams, Garry Hall and twenty year old Yahawee Cuffie and Jason Ferguson.
Windwards will have Kester and John Sylvester, Cameron Cuffie, Casper Davis and Under-19 player Dominic Audin. Team Pakistan will be led by Amjad Khan, Nadeem Younas and Samad Khan.
Players for Trinidad & Tobago will include David Mohamed, David Williams, Roy Emritt and Lendyl Simmonds.Team Barbados will have Andrew Chandler, Patrick Harris, Corey Collymore
The Combined Youth team will feature Akhil Khan Pathan, Nickel Haye, Akeem Dodson, Nigel Bridgelal and Ethon Wilson . The names of the Leeward Island players are not available at this time.
